Suriya Jayanti

Suriya Jayanti is an expert in international relations and transnational business development, with primary expertise in energy and environmental affairs. In addition to her role as Strategic Counsel for Access Advisors, she is the Co-Founder and Managing Director of Eney LLC, a U.S.-Ukrainian clean energy and decarbonization company. She is also a Non-Resident Senior Fellow with the Atlantic Council's Eurasia Group, and serves as an ad hoc Energy Transition Expert at the U.S. Department of Commerce, where she advises governments in developing and post-conflict countries on how to formulate and implement their energy transition strategies.
Before joining Access Advisors and founding Eney, she represented the U.S. as an International Attorney-Advisor at the U.S. Department of Commerce, helping countries all over the world reform and restructure their energy sectors to enhance their attractiveness to foreign investment, and to secure their energy independence. Prior to this, she served as a U.S. diplomat with the U.S. Department of State. In diplomatic assignments in Kuwait, the Bahamas, Iraq, Washington D.C., and Ukraine, she worked closely with local counterparts to help advance reforms, develop good governance, enforce anti-corruption, and enhance energy security. Her portfolios included energy, environment, ICT/Cybersecurity, and international relations. Before her diplomatic career, she worked as an attorney in the Brussels office of Hunton & Williams, and for Donahue & Goldberg in Washington D.C. She also clerked for Chief Judge Eric Washington of the D.C. Court of Appeals.
Suriya has contributed to multiple textbooks and published in such venues as the Atlantic Council, TIME, the Globalist, and the Center for European Policy Analysis (CEPA), as well as in law reviews at Georgetown, Rutgers, and American Universities, among others. She has appeared on BBC Newsnight, CNN+, and elsewhere.
Originally from Los Angeles, she holds an undergraduate degree from Claremont McKenna College in California, a law degree from American University in Washington D.C., and an LL.M. from Katholieke Universiteit Leuven in Belgium, where she is also reading a Ph.D. in international energy disputes.
Suriya is available to advise clients on energy matters, emerging markets, U.S. commercial activities and comparable Eastern European endeavors, and geo-strategic risk management. (She is unable to represent clients for lobbying, public relations, or other non-commercial matters in the U.S.)
